Sociolinguistics is the study of language in its social context. It is concerned with investigating the relationship between language and society with the goal being a better understanding of the structure of language, and how languages function in communication.

In this respect, Kaouache (2008) mentioned that “Sociolinguistics is a descriptive rather than prescriptive study, and modern linguistics is interested in accounting for what speakers actually say and not in what various grammarians and academics or any other “authorities” believe they should say.
