2nd Semester

Linguistics/Phonetics is a new module that encompasses both linguistics and phonetics. Students of English must deal with such a module in their first year since it is paramount in their preliminary stages of learning the language. These are two different but interrelated modules. Through this module, students will learn the basic theoretical frameworks and become familiar with the various spheres of application of both fields. 

Students are taught various topics related to Linguistics, such as the functions of language, characteristics of human language, De Saussure’s dichotomies, etc., and they are also taught topics related to phonetics, such as vowels, consonants, diphthongs, triphthongs, etc. Additionally, they will deal with activities that test their understanding of the theoretical notions and check their pronunciation concerning the learned rules.
