This course is designed to introduce first-year students to the essential skills and techniques required for effective translation from English to Arabic. Over this course, students will learn how to accurately translate sentences and short passages while ensuring a smooth transition that respects the cultural, structural, and grammatical specificities of the Arabic language.
Students will explore the different parts of speech in English, understand the rules of cohesion and coherence in English texts, and learn how to effectively transfer these elements into Arabic. Through practical exercises and theoretical insights, students will develop the ability to handle texts from general fields, making necessary changes, omissions, or additions when required to maintain the meaning, flow, and clarity of the target text.
By the end of the semester, students will be able to translate short passages from general fields accurately, apply the principles of cohesion and coherence in their translations, and make informed decisions about modifications to ensure the text is natural and meaningful in Arabic. This course will provide students with a strong foundation in translation, equipping them with the skills to bridge languages and cultures effectively
